Prayer and Rest

Good Morning All!
I've been mulling over Luke this morning in my quiet time and I noticed a pattern that I thought was very interesting...each time Jesus is about to have a big moment he recedes to the wilderness to pray!

This begins with his 40 days of being tempted (Luke 4:1-12). You probably already knew about that trip. I did.  So I kept reading, let me say that this is the first time I have ever read this so I am just sharing what I have read during my short quiet time!
Next I found it in Luke 6:12.  In this verse Jesus had been teaching in the temples and basically ticking off the scribes by healing people.  These scribes and such were so mad that they were deciding Jesus' punishment (Luke 6:11). So Jesus went out to the mountain and prayed all night.  When he returned he choose the 12 apostles!

I am seeing that prayer and retreat should be a regular part of my everyday life.  Prayer is connecting with my Lord, why wouldn't I want to do that daily?  I am striving to have a daily quiet time each morning before my dh and ds wake.  Right now (it's 6:30am) the house is quiet and I have been able to read much in the book of Luke, and allow God to show me a little piece of how wonderful he is.  If Jesus needed retreat for prayer we all do!

Enjoy your retreat!

FOR TODAY 01/19/2010
...Outside my window...err, cube
A copier is dutifully scanning documents, over and over and over...
I am thinking...
that 5pm is too far away!
I am thankful for...
My job. My family.
From the kitchen...
I can smell the cake from this morning's birthday party (Happy B-Day Gretchen!)
I am wearing...
My flower print blouse and a silk (ankle length) skirt
I am creating...
A mess of my desk.
I am going...
To go home in 1 hour!
I am reading...
Insurance policy forms (woo hoo)
I am hoping...
That tonight I can rest
I am hearing...
The scanner, the mail machine, typing...
Around the house...
Work needs to be done, but no one is home.
One of my favorite things...
A green pen, it makes me happy!
A few plans for the rest of the week:
clean off desk! Finish January renewals!

MY DAYS

I am following a couple Stay at Home Moms and really enjoy seeing how they live day to day. I would love to join the club! I wonder if they know what it would be like to be a working Mom... Here is a peak at how I'm surviving it...

  • My mornings begin around 5:45am. I'm supposed to get up and exercise. Still getting used to the idea of that though...:)
  • Then I spend a few moments with my wonderful Hubby after he wakes up. A cup of coffee to get me going, and a brief shower while DH cooks breakfast.
  • DS wakes up and sigh, goes potty!
  • Breakfast and then were off! (note: This year I am going to do my best to start reading scripture in the mornings as well, so far it is with the exercise while I'm getting up at 6:30 instead of 5:30)
  • I leave at 8am for work.
  • I work. until lunch. then I run errands, eat, and go back to work.
  • I get off at 5pm.
  • Pick up Little Man at School. He goes to a nice christian daycare. He is learning so much! He can count to 10 and say is ABCs (with some prompting, he's not even 2 yet!)
  • We rush home, sometimes we stop in at Grandma's house to get some of that wonderful Grandma/Grandpa love!
  • I cook dinner. PS: it is now around 5:45 unless we went to Grandma's house
  • We eat, after I'm finished I start cleaning the kitchen.
  • When Johnn is done we have our play time.
  • Around 7pm is bath and bible time. We read a story or two from his baby's 1st bible, which he calls the "Jesus book!"
  • He retires, normally, around 9ish.
  • At this point I start working! I clean the house, wash clothes, etc.
  • Hubby gets home around 11:15 from work. We try to spend time together and then I pass out... usually around 12:30am.
Wow... I never thought about it but I only get like 5 hours of sleep. How come it only feels like 2?

If you aren't out of breath, you probably skipped part of it... LOL.

So that is my day in a nutshell. It sometimes doesn't go as planned but we make do. I'm trying to come up with a workable schedule to help me with dinners and cleaning. I like the flyladies site and her formula. Hasn't really stuck yet though.

God Bless ya'll,

Jess

Hello!

Hi! It's nice to see all of you again!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a safe and happy New Year!

OK... so tell me... How is 2010 treating you so far?

God has already blessed me this new year... a new (to me) vacuum! and it's a Rainbow!

I received my first Rainbow about 2 years ago and the motor on the power head has recently gone out (Note to readers: Rainbows were not meant to be "cars" keep the toddlers at bay!) and my house was beginning to get to the "corn planting stage."
So one night I was watching Joyce Myer, who I absolutely love to watch, and she was talking about growing your faith. She said she started growing hers by putting the faith in the Lord that he would provide her needs. She began with praying for new dish rags and shoes for her kids. And guess what?... He provided!
All of a sudden the thought hit me: why not pray for the vacuum to get fixed? duh! So I started praying... This was like Thursday or Friday... on Saturday the hubby remembered a guy at work talking about getting rid of an old Rainbow vacuum. He called him up and a ride to the next town over and $25 later I had a fully functional all accessories included Rainbow vacuum! All it needed was a new belt and some love. God is truly amazing!

How has God provided for you in unexpected ways?

Happy 2010 and God Bless!
